Top-Flite Golf Clubs Review - Could They be Right For You?

Top-Flite golf clubs? Really? I always thought they just made balls …

It would be hard to imagine a golfer who doesn’t recognize the Top-Flite name. After all, Top-Flite has been making golf balls for dozens of years, and millions of rounds have been played with those balls. Top-Flite golf balls have always been popular because they’re so reasonably priced when you compare them with the prices charged by some of their competitors. So, Top-Flite has built a pretty strong reputation based on its golf balls, and as a golf equipment company, it has a lot of name recognition.

I’ve tried my hardest to keep up with all the golf equipment coming out every year. And, it seems like I know about every golf ball Top-Flite has ever made. But in all these years, not once did I ever suspect that the company also makes golf clubs. How did that little “detail” manage to escape me?

That’s a good question, and unfortunately, I don’t have a good answer. But, I’m rectifying my oversight by giving you some information about their golf clubs right here, on this page.

In my defense, Top-Flite only makes five sets of clubs – and two of them are junior sets. I’ll briefly describe each set of Top-Flite golf clubs, starting with the adult versions and ending with the two junior sets.

The Top-Flite XL 7000 Set

This set is a complete boxed set. Available in men’s right-handed and left-handed versions, the Top-Flite XL 7000 set consists of 18 pieces. It includes a 460cc titanium composite driver, two stainless steel fairway woods (a 3-wood and a 5-wood), two hybrids (a 4H and a 5H), six perimeter-weighted irons (6 through sand wedge) and a CNC-milled mallet putter with an alignment aid. Top-Flite says the driver has an extra-large sweet spot and custom graphite shaft to promote distance and accuracy, and the irons feature a deep back channel that lowers their center of gravity for better feel and increased forgiveness. The set also includes five head covers, a lightweight stand bag with full-length club dividers, and a rain hood.

The Top-Flight XL Set

This is a 13-piece set of Top-Flight golf clubs. It includes a 460cc titanium composite driver with a custom graphite shaft and a large sweet spot, a 3-wood with a steel shaft, 2 hybrids (4H and 5H) with steel shafts, 5 perimeter-weighted irons (6 through pitching wedge), and a mallet putter with alignment aids. The Top-Flight XL set also includes a lightweight stand bag, two head covers and a rain hood. Like the XL 7000 set of Top-Flite golf clubs, the XL is available in men’s right- and left-handed versions.

The Top-Flite XL Women’s Golf Club Set

These Top-Flite golf clubs are, naturally, intended to be played by lady golfers. It’s an 11-piece set that includes a 460cc titanium composite driver with a large sweet spot to promote additional distance, a 7-wood (23-degree), a 5-hybrid for versatility, a 7-iron, 9-iron and sand wedge, all with perimeter weighting for forgiveness, control and feel, and a mallet putter with alignment aids. Each of these Top-Flite golf clubs has a graphite shaft to promote a faster swing speed. A stylish, lightweight stand bag with full-length club dividers, three head covers and a rain hood also come with this set of Top-Flite golf clubs. They’re available in right- and left-handed versions.

The Top-Flite XLj Junior Set for Ages 9-12

This 11-piece set of Top-Flite golf clubs is designed to be played by junior golfers between 53 and 60 inches tall. Available only with right-handed clubs, the XLj set includes a 360cc driver with a graphite shaft and a draw bias, a stainless steel fairway wood with a draw bias, a hybrid for versatility, three irons and a mallet putter with alignment aids. It also comes with three head covers, a lightweight stand bag and a rain hood.

The Top-Flite XLj Junior Set for Ages 5-8

This set of Top-Flite golf clubs is very similar to the set designed for ages 9-12, but because it’s intended for even younger, shorter golfers (41 to 52 inches tall), the clubs are shorter and it includes one less iron. Other than that, they’re pretty much identical. This set is also only available in a right-handed version.

These boxed sets of Top-Flite golf clubs are relatively inexpensive, even though they come from one of the biggest names in golf. Reviews from owners are almost universally positive, and one of these sets would make a great choice for just about any beginning golfer. Whether you’re looking for a set of clubs for a man, woman or child, Top-Flite makes clubs that can provide a good introduction to the world of golf.
